All therapists at HULC are qualified to perform simple through to complex wound care.
Some examples of wound care that your therapist is qualified to perform include
- Dressing Changes: Applying and changing advanced dressings for wounds that require specialised care, such as those with significant drainage or risk of infection.
- Neurovascular Tests: Assessing the blood flow and nerve function in new flaps or graft sites to ensure proper healing and functionality.
- Suture and Steri-Staple Removal: Carefully removing sutures and steri-staples once the wound has sufficiently healed to avoid reopening the wound or causing additional trauma.
- Debridement: Cleaning the wound to remove dead tissue, which promotes healthy tissue growth and reduces the risk of infection.
- Infection Management: Monitoring for signs of infection and applying appropriate treatments and coordinating with the treating doctor or surgeon if necessary.
- Education and Self-Care Training: Teaching patients how to care for their wounds at home, including proper cleaning techniques and signs of complications to watch for.
