Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common condition that can affect many different joints. It is caused by the gradual ‘wearing away’ of the smooth cartilage covering the joint surface. This leads to pain, stiffness, and decreased function.

The base of the thumb is a particularly common site affected by osteoarthritis, often resulting in significant discomfort and difficulty with daily activities. Treatment options vary depending on the specific joints involved, as well as the severity and duration of symptoms.

Non-operative treatment options are often highly effective and can include custom splinting to support the joint and reduce pain, along with targeted exercise programs.  These non-invasive treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life without the need for surgery.

By working closely with our skilled therapists, patients can receive a comprehensive, individualised treatment plan that addresses their unique functional needs.
