At the Hand and Upper Limb Centre, we fabricate custom same-day thermoplastic orthoses (splints).
Depending on the complexity, the fabrication process usually takes between 10 to 30 minutes.
Thermoplastic splints offer several advantages: they are removable for wound care, lighter than plaster, water-resistant, and more aesthetically pleasing than fibreglass or plaster splints.
You can even choose your favourite colours and they are easy to clean.
Some patients, due to the complexity of their injury, age, or doctor’s request, may not be suitable for a thermoplastic splint. If this is the case, your therapist will discuss alternative options with you.
