Metacarpal fracture

The metacarpal bones are the five long bones in the hand that connect the wrist to the fingers.

Metacarpal fractures are common injuries, often resulting from direct trauma to the hand.

Symptoms typically include pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty moving the affected fingers. In some cases, the hand may appear deformed or misaligned.

Treatment for metacarpal fractures varies depending on the severity and location of the break but can include immobilisation with a splint or cast, and in more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to realign the bones. Recovery usually involves a period of hand therapy to restore strength and mobility to the hand.
